Romances for the Spooky Season (And Any Season Really)!

Halloween is this week and there is no better time than now to read something scary, eerie, or completely out of this world! Here are some of my best recommendations for spooky stories with happy ever afters or happy for nows. I had to shorten my list, but feel free to put any recommendations you might have in the comments!

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling (witches- second chance romance)

What it’s about:
Vivienne had her heartbroken years ago by Rhys Penhallow and even though she didn’t have the proper tools, she cursed him from her bathtub using a pumpkin spice candle, thinking it wouldn’t take. Now almost a decade later Rhys is back in town, and he swears someone has cursed him after accident after accident happens. The chemistry between the two is undeniable once again as they work to break the curse, and save the town from a curse gone rogue.

Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper (witches, revenge plot gone wrong, F/F)

What it’s about:
Emmy has been avoiding going home because of the warlock who broke her heart. Turns out Gareth was cheating on her with her best friend and one other person, Talia. Now two of them want to get revenge on Gareth, but Emmy can’t shake her attraction to Talia. It’s charming and sweet as well as a great beginning to a new series. https://eagleeyebooks.com/home/bookdetailsin/9780593336069/

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon (Aliens, very high heat)

What it’s about:
This international phenomenon is about human women who have kidnapped by aliens and then abandoned on a planet with no resources. Georgie Carruthers is takes the lead in finding help and finds Vektal who is adamant she is his mate. Vektal is horned blue alien and he is willing to do what it takes to protect his woman, but letting her go is not something he’s willing to do. The chemistry is intense, but the writing surprisingly good. I found myself charmed and bingeing this series, and I think you will too!   https://eagleeyebooks.com/home/bookdetailsin/9780593546024/

 Archangel’s Light by Nalini Singh (Paranormal-angels M/M)

What it’s about:
This book is highly anticipated, and although it is part of a series, Nalini Singh’s talents allows each book stand alone. Illium and Aodhan are angels and have been friends for centuries. Through ups and downs, they’ve supported each other. Aodhan lost himself, and is slowly finding himself again, but new challenges are threatening their relationship. Will they remain friends or move forward together? I have been awaiting Illium’s book since I first met him in Angels’ Blood in book 1 of the Guild Hunters Series. This book is 12 years in the making and is Singh’s first romance featuring a male-male couple. To say I’m excited is an understatement!   https://eagleeyebooks.com/home/bookdetailsin/9780593198148/

The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller (Ghosts/Gilded Age Romance)

What it’s about:
The Widow of Rose House is an underrated debut gem. Diana Biller writes like a seasoned bestselling author. The heroine Alva has bought this abandoned mansion in Hyde Park, and is trying to get it inhabitable but both the house and town are being hostile. Enter Professor Samuel Moore, who can help with the haunting part, but he finds Alva as fascinating as the poltergeist. The story is beautifully written and is as haunting as it is hopeful.

The Brightest Star in Paris by Diana Biller (Second Chance, Fake Dating, Ghosts)
I have been waiting to read this book since it was first announced and Diana Biller does not disappoint! Dr. Benedict Moore finds himself in Paris for work and looks up the woman who broke his heart over a decade ago. Amelie St. James is a ballerina, who finds herself in trouble. The two find themselves working together and their attraction reignites. Don’t let the beautiful cover, there are spectral elements and aspects that play very important roles in the story’s development. I highly recommend this book!

For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten (Dark fantasy romance)

What it’s about:
Redarys is the second daughter, and she’s been promised to the Wolf. The mythology is if the second daughter is found wanting, the Wolf who is a monster will release The Four Kings, who the kingdom worships as Gods. But all is not as it seems, especially the Wolf of the Wilderwood and while Red works to save the Wilderwood and the family she left behind, her distraught sister works to free her sister and end the “curse” of The Second Daughter. The book is the first in a duology and is fascinating, haunting, and oh so delicious! One of my favorite reads this year.

Davy Harwood by Tijan (Vampires for mature YA/NA readers, enemies to lovers)

What it’s about:
Davy is an empath, but all she want to do is go to college and have a normal teen life. Unfortunately things change when she is unable to prevent a suicide and both vampires and vampire hunters flood her college town looking for “The Immortal One”. She finds herself at the center of it all, with some looking to kill her, and some looking to save her. It’s the first book in a trilogy, and starts off a little slow, but picks up quickly and is so hard to put down! This is perfect for older teens and reads like a CW TV show. https://eagleeyebooks.com/home/bookdetailsin/9781951771195/

Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa (Fantasy romance-mythical creatures)

What it’s about:
Callypso has accumulated a bracelet of black beads on her wrist by asking The Bargainer, the Fae King, for favors. He’s never asked her to repay them until now. He once spurned her affections, but now he needs her to help save his kingdom from an unknown foe threatening the women and children of his kingdom. This foe also has a taste for rare creatures and Callypso as a siren, is one of the rarest there is.The series is addictive and enthralling. If you’re a fan of fae romances or Sarah J. Maas, this series is a must read! The author is one of my favorites.

What it’s about:

This super cute slow burn paranormal romance features a werewolf (Mateo cruz) whose power to shape shift has been taken away and it’s wrecking havoc on his life and art. Enter the witch Evie Savoie who is a talented curse breaker, and he finds the only thing that soothes the wolf in his head is her. The attraction goes both ways, although Evie’s been told no werewolves!  https://eagleeyebooks.com/home/bookdetailsin/9781087848563/

You’ve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao (Diverse characters, supernatural/magic)

What it’s about:
Prepare your tissues, as this is not a traditional love story, but explores grief after a devastating loss. Julie and Sam have plans; they’re seventeen but Sam’s life is cut short. Julie finds herself handling his loss by refusing to accept it. She longs to hear his voice once more and calls his phone, and to her surprise he answers! The story is poignant, touching, and so memorable!

What it’s about:
This super romantic comedy is set around an event planner who’s career is riding on this one event with a world famous horror writer who absolutely does not want anything to do with it. However his future endeavors are riding on its success. Their first meeting is epic and hilarious. You won’t want to miss the battle of wills that ensues, or the  romance that develops!
